Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Miller.
Hi Chelsea, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started pursuing photography professionally about a year and a half ago. My whole life, I have loved taking photos. Digital, Polaroids, disposables, and once I got an iPhone, all bets were off. You name it, I loved anything with a lens as a kid.
By the time I decided to purchase my first professional camera, I was working at a 9-5 that was extremely solitary and analytical. I wasn’t doing anything to express myself creatively, which ultimately drained me. Just over a year after picking up that professional camera, I have photographed several weddings, couples, and families. I left my 9-5 in June of this year to pursue photography full-time, and I haven’t looked back!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Like anything new, there was and is so much to learn. I threw myself into photography and had no backround in owning a business. I’ve spent the last year and a half being a sponge and learning everything I can to make myself and my work a little better each day. I have also had some wonderful mentors along the way who have helped me with learning the ins and outs of both the software and the hardware that goes into operating a wedding photography business.
I am also currently trying to expand my wedding photography services to Southern California, so I am looking forward to the new challenge of adding travel photographer to my résumé!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in wedding and portrait photography that aims to tell authentic stories for my clients. Some of my favorite moments at weddings are the quick and subtle in-between moments that the couple might otherwise miss: loved ones greeting each other, their in-laws getting down on the dance floor, and new friendships forming as different groups mingle. I want my couples to look back on their photos and genuinely remember how the day felt to them.
It is always my goal to make sure my clients have fun while capturing photos and are able to be fully present!
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something most people might not know about me is that my business’s name, Chelsea Reid Studios, is actually an homage to my Grammy. My Grammy’s maiden name is Reid, which is actually my middle name. I have always been close with her and wanted my business’s name to be reflective of that relationship!
