Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Perrin.
Hi Andrew, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Yelp started as a hobby. When I started my DC job I was already writing reviews regularly and I was invited to the Yelp Elite Squad, an exclusive group of influential users who love supporting local businesses, meeting business owners, spreading word-of-mouth, and sharing honest, constructive reviews. Attending Yelp Elite events exposed me to places I didn’t even know existed and wouldn’t have visited otherwise, and I made many friends along the way.
Fast forward to now, I evolved from the event attendee to the event organizer, supporting and partnering with local businesses to connect them with these Yelp Elites and give them the same experience I have had for all of these years.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My educational and career background is research, so joining Yelp as an employee was quite an exciting switch. Planning events and doing content creation on a professional level were both unexplored territory for me, and I was admittedly nervous. But I managed to adapt quickly, and I’m still learning everyday.
Speaking of our events, many businesses are impacted by universally rising costs, so figuring out the best ways to support them can sometimes be tricky.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the Yelp MD Burbs Community Manager, and I spotlight local owners and their businesses through free social media content and partnered events to form connections with the Yelp Elite Squad. I bring exciting elements to these events to make them unforgettable for both the Yelp Elites and the business owners. I also educate business owners on all of the free features available through the Yelp platform.
I am most proud of the connections established along the way. The business owners I meet are amazing people, and seeing the smiles when the Yelp Elites and owners meet is awesome. I love the excitement when a Yelp Elite is eager to return to a business (and they actually do).
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Creativity and enthusiasm are two huge ones. We like to have fun and discovering local hidden gems is supposed to be as epic and exciting as we can make it.
