Hi Tanika (Niik), we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a strong love and appreciation for locs and natural hair. My journey began with staring my own locs and creating my own hair products, including loc gels and various hair oils. As my business grew, I had the opportunity to participate in pop-up shops, allowing me to connect with even more people and share my products. Over the years, I developed meaningful relationships with my customers and became inspired to learn proper loc maintenance techniques and styling methods. Through my skills, personal experiences, and passion for natural hair, I realized that I could build something meaningful while helping others embrace, care for, and feel confident in their natural hair.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a loctician is rewarding however I have come across challenges as far as inconsistent bookings, staying consistent with marketing and pricing.

My business is called UrstrulyNiik, and I am a proud Baltimore loctician. I take great pride in the positive impact I have on my clients by helping them feel confident and beautiful .Some of my clients experience conditions such as alopecia, psoriasis, and other dermatological concerns, which can sometimes affect their confidence. I strive to provide more than just loc maintenance and styling—I create a comfortable, supportive, and uplifting environment for every client. I love using my personality and sense of humor to make my clients laugh, feel relaxed, and enjoy their experience every time they sit in my chair.

One of the biggest risks I’ve taken as a loctician was investing in myself and stepping outside of my comfort zone.
