Exploring Life & Business with Mimi Ge of Bodywork Magic LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Ge.

Hi Mimi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey started in 2014 when I was working at a dance studio in Atlanta. I loved what I was doing, but at the same time was experiencing chronic back pain. This pain forced me to try many different remedies, but what I found most helpful was acupressure massage. This painful experience made me take a career detour away from dance. I decided to learn about the human body by going into massage therapy.
During my massage schooling, I learned the basic skills and techniques to work as a therapist. Furthermore, connecting with each client’s body gave me insights and understanding that ignited my curiosity regarding what causes pain, imbalance and mobility issues. Then I started to notice patterns, most of which originate from natural forces such as Gravity. This pattern recognition was fascinating because I found I was not only able to help my clients feel better but also I was able to understand what it takes to decrease the level of the pain I myself was dealing with. I was ecstatic and incredibly inspired! Life felt purposeful and what I do has great meaning.
Just as I got into my groove in early 2020, Covid hit! What began as a time of uncertainty turned out to be a blessing in disguise. After taking a short break due to Covid, my former classmate Erika Tempro, who is a Lymphatic Drainage Specialist, reached out and asked me if I would like to join her to open a practice together that specializes in Lymphatic Drainage therapy. I immediately agreed because I’ve heard many great things about the wide range of benefits from this therapy and wanted to use this opportunity to expand my skillset.
Finally, in early 2021 we found the perfect location and made it into a cozy office. During the past few years of practicing Lymphatic Drainage Massage I’ve gained knowledge about things I never thought I’d ever have a chance to learn. Everyday I hear people talk about fluid retention and how it affects their lives. This not only allowed me to understand the effect it has on each of their lives, but brought me to the realization that it was affecting my own body as well. This epiphany both humbled and intrigued me as to how and why this was happening. Through research and taking courses I started to see that this fluid retention phenomenon isn’t just caused by one thing, but instead by the combination of lifestyle and nutritional choices.  Yet again, I found myself playing the role of a detective, trying to figure out the best way to combat these conditions. I learned the invaluable role of nutrition, and most importantly, what foods to avoid while at the same time creating new, healthy habits. Through utilizing these methods on myself, I was able to completely transform and go from constantly bloated with brain fog to less irritation and a more clear mind. Reaching this goal made me feel as if I had solved a mystery! It gave me an incredible feeling and it became part of my conversation with each and every one of my clients. Now, I talk to them about foods that cause inflammation and what they can do about it, as well as how to counteract a typical sedentary lifestyle with some simple solutions.
Conclusion: I’m grateful to have chosen massage therapy as a career. It has made me expand my mind and knowledge in ways I never thought possible, as well as giving me confidence, joy, and most of all, purpose in life. I want to share my knowledge and understanding while helping people to feel better and broaden their physical possibilities.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This journey means more than just a business because I was searching for real answers to what causes physical Imbalance, pain and other phenomenons. So to me it’s not a smooth road. It’s a constant questioning and discovering to understand truth and relationships of natural forces. But I can honestly say I enjoyed every minute of this journey because what I was learning. I would have not understood this deep knowledge if I never walked this road.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Bodywork Magic LLC?
This business is about discovering the hidden secret about the human body and it’s manifestation of our current life style. So even though it seems as if we question why we experience pain, fluid retention and other phenomenons. The answers lies in plain sight. I specialize in Trigger point therapy, Lymphatic Drainage massage and teaching people how to restore their body through simple adjustments on how to work with habits that causes chronic issues. I believe my methods are advanced because I’ve not heard anyone talks about the body the way I understand it. What sets me apart is I make sure I represent the understanding in body as a machine that systems all work together rather than only talk about one system at the time. The human body is complex and multidimensionally designed. I think it’s time we start looking at it as the way that each system effect each other and come to a realization of what root cause rather just look at the symptoms. That way we’re not just running in circles for years and come to a sustainable result.

The name of my business “Bodywork Magic” is The magic of the body is in its relationship with Gravity, and it’s always working.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I think people who knows me does not know that I show and teach people to restore the body. Most people don’t think they have anything to restore. But if you zoom out and see our society most people complain about neck pain, back pain starting as a young age. And if you follow this group of people you will see how much and how fast their body deteriorate. They first start by looking for relief by going to chiropractors and physical therapy for help. Then eventually are recommended to get back surgery at a young age. My cousin for example had a back surgery in mid 30s.

So what people don’t know is that first of all the result of back surgerie is not restoring and fix the issue. It not only restrict the movement of the area, it would eventually cause more pain in other areas. What you need to know is that it can be helped and restored. That’s what I often talk about and try to show and teach people. Because i would personally heal my own body with the help of natural forces.
