Hi Nelson, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey with SoHy Station really began with a simple idea: I wanted to create a space where people could come together, celebrate, connect, and feel genuinely welcomed.
I have always had a passion for hospitality, bringing people together, and creating memorable experiences. Over the years, my professional experiences in hospitality, restaurant operations, catering, and event coordination gave me the opportunity to see firsthand what makes an experience special. I learned that it is rarely just about the food, the décor, or even the space itself. It is about how people feel when they walk through the door and the memories they leave with.
That philosophy became the foundation for SoHy Station.
When I founded SoHy Station in September 2024, I envisioned more than a traditional event venue. I wanted to create a versatile community space in the heart of Hyattsville where people could celebrate life’s milestones, businesses could gather and grow, entrepreneurs could showcase their ideas, and the community could experience something new.
Like most entrepreneurial journeys, getting here has required a tremendous amount of hard work, persistence, learning, and adaptability. Building a business from the ground up teaches you very quickly that the vision is only the beginning. You have to be willing to wear many hats, solve problems you never anticipated, listen to your customers, make adjustments, and continue moving forward even when the path looks different from what you originally imagined.
But that process has also been incredibly rewarding.
Since opening, SoHy Station has welcomed everything from birthdays, weddings and celebrations to corporate meetings, trainings, networking events, workshops, community gatherings, and special experiences. Every event has helped us better understand what our community needs and what SoHy Station has the potential to become.
Today, I see SoHy Station evolving into much more than a place you rent for an event. My goal is for it to become a destination for connection, creativity, education, entrepreneurship, entertainment, and community. We are continuing to expand our programming, partnerships, hospitality offerings, and the experiences we can provide.
What excites me most is that I still feel like we are at the beginning of the story.
When I look at where SoHy Station started and where we are headed, I am incredibly proud. Not simply because we built a venue, but because we are building a place where people can create memories, share ideas, build relationships, and bring their own visions to life.
For me, that is what SoHy Station is ultimately about: creating a space where people and possibilities come together.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road, but I’ve learned that very few meaningful entrepreneurial journeys are.
Building SoHy Station from the ground up has come with its share of challenges, from navigating permits and regulations to renovations, construction, operating costs, and simply learning how to grow a new business while maintaining a high standard of service. There have been moments when plans changed, timelines shifted, and I had to quickly find a new solution.
One of the biggest lessons has been learning to embrace those challenges rather than become discouraged by them. Every obstacle has forced me to become more resourceful, patient, and intentional about the business I am building.
I often remind myself that we are not just building for where SoHy Station is today- we are building for where we want it to be five and ten years from now. That perspective makes the difficult days worth it.

SoHy Station is more than an event venue- it is a space designed around connection, creativity, and experience. We host everything from private celebrations and corporate events to workshops, networking opportunities, community programs, and unique social experiences.
What I love most about the business is its versatility. One day we may be hosting an intimate celebration, and the next, a business training, community class, or networking event. We have intentionally created a space where people can walk in with an idea and have the flexibility to bring that vision to life.
Professionally, I’m especially excited about what comes next. We are expanding beyond traditional venue rentals and developing more in-house experiences, hospitality offerings, partnerships, and community programming. My vision is for SoHy Station to become a true destination in Hyattsville- a place people think of not only when they have something to celebrate, but when they want to connect, learn, experience something new, or simply enjoy the community.
At the heart of everything we do is hospitality. We want every person who walks through our doors to feel like they belong here.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I would say resilience. Entrepreneurship will test your confidence, patience, and ability to adapt. There have been plenty of moments when things did not go according to plan, but I’ve learned not to view a setback as the end of the story.
I’m willing to adjust, learn, find another solution, and keep moving forward. I also believe strongly in staying connected to the original vision, even when the path to achieving it changes.
That resilience has been essential to building SoHy Station. I’ve learned that success isn’t always about having everything figured out- it’s about being committed enough to keep figuring it out.
