Hidden Gems: Meet Marcus Evans of M T Evans Media Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcus Evans.

Hi Marcus, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey into photography and media started unexpectedly. After a life-changing motorcycle accident, I went through a period of rehabilitation and began looking for a creative outlet. I picked up my first camera, a Canon T7 with a kit lens, and started teaching myself photography.

What began as something I was simply passionate about quickly became a business. I started photographing people, events, churches, artists, and brands, constantly learning and improving along the way. Eventually, my work began opening doors I never imagined from being featured by the Birmingham Museum of Art and Voyage ATL to working with artists, churches, entrepreneurs, and organizations.

Over time, I realized I wasn’t just interested in taking pictures. I wanted to tell stories, build brands, and create opportunities through media. That vision led me to grow from M T Evans Photography toward M T Evans Media Group, with a bigger goal of becoming a full-scale media company.

Today, I’m continuing to build that vision while balancing family, ministry, work, and entrepreneurship. I’m still learning, still growing, and still creating but the biggest thing my journey has taught me is that you don’t have to start with everything figured out. Sometimes you just have to start with what you have, stay consistent, and allow the journey to shape the vision.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to build a business while also working a full-time job, raising a family, serving in ministry, and continuing to grow creatively.

I’ve also had to overcome financial limitations, self-doubt, inconsistent opportunities, and the challenge of learning the business side of media while I was still learning the craft itself. There were times when I questioned whether I was really capable of turning photography into something bigger.

My motorcycle accident was another major turning point in my life. It changed my perspective and forced me to look at life differently. Starting with my first camera and building from there taught me that I didn’t need to have everything I just needed to be willing to start.

There have been setbacks, slow seasons, and moments where things didn’t go the way I planned. But every challenge has taught me something about discipline, patience, business, and believing in the vision before other people can see it.

I’m still on the journey. I don’t look at the struggles as proof that I’m failing; I look at them as part of the process that is preparing me for where I’m trying to go.

We’ve been impressed with M T Evans Media Group , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
M T Evans Media Group is a Birmingham, Alabama-based visual media company built around one simple idea: your story deserves to be seen. What began as a photography journey has grown into a broader creative brand providing photography, videography, branding, event coverage, content creation, and visual storytelling for individuals, businesses, churches, artists, and organizations.

We specialize in capturing more than just images we create visuals that help people and brands communicate who they are, connect with their audience, and build a lasting legacy. Our work includes events, portraits, headshots, weddings, concerts, church media, behind-the-scenes content, brand campaigns, documentaries, and social media content.

What sets M T Evans apart is the personal connection behind the work. I don’t approach every project simply as a photographer showing up with a camera. I approach it as a storyteller and creative partner. I want to understand the person, brand, event, or organization behind the project and then create visuals that feel authentic to their identity.

I’m especially proud of how far the brand has come. I started with a Canon T7 and a vision, and through persistence, networking, learning, and continuing to create, I’ve had opportunities to work with churches, artists, entrepreneurs, publications, and organizations while building a name for myself in Birmingham and beyond. Every milestone has reinforced that you don’t need to start with everything you need to start with what you have and be willing to grow.

Today, my vision is much bigger than photography. I am building M T Evans Media Group into a premium, multi-service media company that can help clients tell their stories from concept to completion. Whether someone needs a professional headshot, a wedding captured, a brand campaign created, an event documented, or a larger story turned into a documentary, the goal is always the same: create work that has meaning, looks professional, and leaves a lasting impression.

I want readers to know that M T Evans Media Group is a brand built on creativity, faith, resilience, and purpose. We aren’t just documenting moments we’re helping people and organizations turn those moments into stories that can be remembered, shared, and built upon for years to come.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I’ve learned that sometimes the biggest risk isn’t failing it’s refusing to try. Failure can teach you something, but playing it safe can leave you wondering what your life and your vision could have become.

For me, risk-taking is faith backed by action. I believe in praying about the vision, preparing for the opportunity, and then having the courage to move when the door opens. I don’t expect every risk to work out exactly how I planned, but I trust that every step will either move me forward or teach me something I need for the next level.

At this stage of my journey, I’m not trying to build a life around what feels comfortable. I’m building around purpose, impact, and legacy. I’m willing to take the shot because I know the vision God placed in me is bigger than the fear that comes with pursuing it.

I’d rather take the risk and discover what I’m capable of than spend the rest of my life wondering what could have happened if I had just been willing to take the shot.
