Meet LaTia Few of Unmask by Design (a DBA of LaFew & Associates)

Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTia Few.

LaTia , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Two months before my 40th birthday, my life looked completely different than I thought it would.

My 16-year relationship ended, eventually leading to divorce. Just months earlier, we’d been in Aruba celebrating our love. Then suddenly I was sitting at my kitchen counter, exhausted, unhappy, and honestly asking myself, how did I get here?

I had spent so much of my adult life doing what I thought I was supposed to do: go to work, pay the bills, take care of my family, keep pushing. Professionally, I’d stayed in a position for more than a decade that no longer excited or challenged me. Personally, I’d been with the same person since my early twenties, so when that relationship ended, I realized I didn’t really know who I was outside of being someone’s partner, mother, employee, or leader.

I knew how to survive. What I didn’t know was how to slow down and actually deal with what I was feeling.

So what I jokingly called my midlife crisis became one of the greatest periods of self-discovery in my life. I started getting to know Tiffany again.

I walked. I traveled. I meditated. I cooked. I listened to music. I read. I spent time in nature. I learned how to sit with myself. And little by little, I started asking different questions, not just “What should I do next?” but “Who am I, what do I really want, and does the life I’m living actually match that?”

Those questions eventually led me to Human Design. I still remember the first time someone read my chart and described parts of me so accurately it stopped me in my tracks. It was like finally getting language for things I’d always felt but could never quite explain.

But I’m a project manager at heart, so once something resonates with me, I don’t just want to understand it. I want to know how to use it. That practical side is what pushed me to get certified as a BG5 Career and Business Consultant, so I could take something that felt almost magical and turn it into a real tool, one structured enough to actually help people build their lives and careers.

After years of searching for something that truly felt like me, I finally found work that let me bring together every part of myself: education, leadership, coaching, strategy, creativity, project management, and an ability to see things in people that they don’t always see in themselves.

That journey became the foundation for Unmask by Design, because I had to unmask myself before I could help anyone else do it. It also shaped my work through LaFew & Associates, where I use coaching, consulting, strategy, and project management to help people and organizations turn ideas into action.

Yes, I’m a certified Agile Project Manager, so somewhere along the way, I realized I’d basically started project managing my own life. I looked at what was working, what wasn’t, what needed to go, and what needed to change. Then came the hardest part: actually making the changes.

One of those changes was walking away from the security of a full-time career when I realized it no longer aligned with the life I was telling other people they had permission to create. I couldn’t keep telling people to live by design while I was living by default. So I bet on myself.

That decision opened doors I couldn’t have planned for. I was invited to coach underrepresented entrepreneurs through a respected Los Angeles educational institution, working alongside incredible business owners and helping them recognize their own strengths and possibilities. I also had the opportunity to work with the BG5 Business Institute, contributing fresh ideas and content while continuing to grow in the very work that had transformed my own life.

My path hasn’t been a perfectly planned one. There have been pivots, heartbreak, uncomfortable decisions, and plenty of moments when I questioned what I was doing. But that’s exactly why I believe so deeply in this work.

Sometimes you don’t need to become someone new. Sometimes you need to unmask the person who’s been there all along.

That’s what this journey has been for me: learning who LaTia is without all the titles, expectations, and masks, and then having the courage to build a life and career that actually look like her.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it hasn’t been smooth at all. If anything, the messy parts are where most of the growth happened.

The biggest struggle was the fear that came with starting over in my forties. I had spent almost two decades building an identity around being someone’s partner and staying in a career that felt safe, even when it stopped feeling right. Walking away from both of those things at the same time meant walking away from certainty. There were nights I sat with the fear of “what if this doesn’t work” right alongside the excitement of finally choosing myself.

Financially, it was scary too. Leaving a stable full time career to build something of my own meant I couldn’t always predict what income would look like month to month. I had to learn how to sit with that discomfort instead of running back to what felt safe just because it was familiar.

There was also an emotional obstacle that surprised me the most: learning who I was outside of my titles. I knew how to be a partner, a mother, an employee, a leader. What I didn’t know was who LaTia was underneath all of that. Some of my hardest days weren’t about logistics at all. They were about sitting in the quiet and realizing I had to get to know myself again almost from scratch.

Honestly, there was doubt from people around me too. Not everyone understood why I would leave something stable to build something unproven. I had to get comfortable disappointing people who wanted the safer version of my story, so I could actually live the true one.

But every one of those struggles taught me something I now use in my work. I don’t coach people through reinvention from a place of theory. I coach them through it because I have lived every uncomfortable, unglamorous part of it myself.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Unmask by Design (a DBA of LaFew & Associates)?
Unmask by Design is where I help people stop living by default and start living by their actual blueprint. Every piece of it, the reports, the coaching, the podcast, the team work, comes back to one belief: getting unstuck starts with getting honest and doing your inner work.

At the individual level, I create personalized Human Design reports, grounded in Human Design, Gene Keys, and BG5, that go deep into one specific area of a person’s life at a time: love, grief, career, fatherhood, health, identity, wealth. Every report is built from someone’s real birth data, so it’s not a generic overview of their “type.” It’s a precise map of how their energy, authority, and design actually shape the way they move through that part of their life. The Reveal Membership delivers a new report every month, and I also offer one-on-one BG5 Career & Business coaching for people who want to go deeper than a report and actually work the material with me.

That same honesty shows up in Unmask Fire Chats, my video podcast. It’s real, raw conversations, not the polished highlight reel version of transformation. I sit down with people who’ve done real inner work, some who I’ve personally coached through it, and we talk about what it actually took to get where they are: the messy middle, the identity crises, the 3am moments where everything you thought you knew about yourself gets questioned. I started it because I was tired of content that pretends change is clean and linear. It isn’t. And hearing someone else’s real story is often exactly what unlocks your own.

That belief doesn’t stop at the individual level. It’s also why I built Team Blueprint, which takes everything I do one-on-one and brings it into the workplace. It’s a BG5 team design engagement for small teams and the leaders responsible for them, especially right now, when so many teams are running on fumes after layoffs, doing more with less, checked out because of what’s happening at home or what’s toxic at work. Using BG5, I map out how each person on a team is actually designed to work, decide, and communicate, then show leaders where the friction is really coming from and how to redesign the way the team works together instead of just pushing harder against what isn’t working.

All of this lives under my company, LaFew & Associates, the project management and business solutions side of what I do. Through LaFew, I’ve supported healthcare, education, and government clients (including a project and budget management contract with Baltimore City Public Schools) as a certified Agile Project Manager, helping organizations tighten their operations, hit their deadlines, and actually execute on their goals instead of just planning them.

What sets me apart is that I’m not coming at any of this from theory. I hold both sides at once: the practical, structured, get-it-done project manager, and the intuitive, design-based coach who can see what’s actually true for a person, or a team, underneath the titles and the noise. Most Human Design content stops at “here’s your type.” I take it further, whether that’s a personalized report, a Fire Chats conversation, or a Team Blueprint engagement, and apply it to a real, lived question someone is facing. And because I have the operational background to match, I can turn that insight into an actual plan, not just a nice conversation.

What I’m most proud of, brand-wise, is that Unmask by Design isn’t a concept I studied. It’s the thing that got me through my own reinvention in my forties, when I had to unmask myself before I could help anyone else do it. Every offering I’ve built since, the reports, the membership, Fire Chats, Team Blueprint, is a different door into the same room: helping people, and the teams they work on, finally live as who they actually are instead of who they learned to perform. I want readers to know this work isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about building real tools around the truth that was already there, and I’ve built a whole brand to prove it’s possible.

What’s next?
The biggest thing I’m working on right now takes everything I believe about self-discovery and hands it to kids way earlier than I ever got the chance.

I’m partnering with a former principal to build a three-year cohort program for middle school students. It starts in sixth grade and runs through eighth grade, and it introduces students to a trade, things like construction, photography and videography, culinary arts, and cosmetology, long before the high school Career Technical and Education pathway most kids don’t even hear about until it’s almost too late.

But learning a trade is only part of it. Starting in sixth grade, we’re also building in social-emotional learning, and we want to introduce students to Human Design and BG5 so they’re doing real self-development work at the same time they’re figuring out what they’re actually good at with their hands. I don’t just want them to leave knowing a trade. I want them to leave knowing themselves: their strengths, how they naturally think, how they work, who they are before the world starts telling them who to be.

We’re building it as a nonprofit so we can go after grant funding and accept donations, starting with one pilot cohort to prove the model works before we grow it.

Honestly, this whole thing feels full circle for me. I spent my forties learning who I was outside of my titles. Now I get to help build something that hands kids that same self-knowledge decades earlier, at the exact age when it can actually change the direction of their life instead of something they have to unlearn and rediscover at 39.
