Hi Steven, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Steven Kontsevenko, a Maryland-based event and wedding filmmaker and photographer with a passion for capturing genuine moments and telling stories that people can relive for years to come.
My journey began nine years ago when I filmed my very first wedding, my sister’s. What started as an opportunity to capture an important day for my family quickly sparked a passion for filmmaking and storytelling that has continued to grow ever since. That first wedding eventually led me to pursue filmmaking professionally and to explore everything from weddings and intimate celebrations to large-scale corporate productions.
Beyond 250 weddings, I’ve had the opportunity to film and photograph large-scale corporate conferences, live events, and branded productions across the United States, working with events including HLTH, ViVE, Money20/20, Nourishing Change, PCMA, NATA, Big Event Media, HumanX, CCW, MLP, The VIBE, and CCIM.
Whether I’m leading a production or working alongside another creative team as a second shooter, I pride myself on being reliable, easy to work with, and a strong communicator. I enjoy solving problems, adapting to whatever a production throws my way, and creating clean, cinematic imagery that feels intentional and authentic.
After traveling across the United States for productions, I’m excited to take that work internationally. Later this year, I’ll be heading to Amsterdam to film the first-ever HumanX Europe. It will be my first production in Europe and another exciting chapter in a career that continues to take me to new places.
I’m based in Hagerstown, Maryland, and I’m always happy to travel wherever the project takes me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. I started doing this professionally and full-time pretty quickly, which meant I had to learn and grow at a very fast pace. There was a massive amount of growth in a relatively short period of time, and with that came new and challenging experiences that constantly pushed me outside of my comfort zone.
One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to handle the pace of the work. There have been stretches where the schedule gets pretty intense, filming two weddings back-to-back, catching a 6 a.m. flight the next morning to travel across the country for a week-long conference, flying home, and then going straight into another back-to-back wedding weekend with no time to reset.
Those experiences have taught me much more than just filmmaking. I’ve had to learn how to manage my time, communicate clearly, stay organized, solve problems under pressure, and most importantly, deliver the same level of professionalism and creativity regardless of how exhausted I might be.
Looking back, I wouldn’t necessarily call those periods easy, but they have been some of the most valuable experiences and lessons of my career. The challenges forced me to grow quickly, become more adaptable, and learn what I’m capable of handling. Every demanding production has ultimately prepared me for the next opportunity.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in event and wedding filmmaking and photography, with a strong focus on creating clean, cinematic imagery that feels natural and intentional. One of my strongest skills as a filmmaker is gimbal operation. I love the challenge of creating smooth, dynamic movement and finding ways to use camera motion to make a moment feel more immersive and engaging.
But I think what sets me apart goes beyond the technical side of filmmaking. I’m a problem solver. Live events and weddings rarely go exactly according to plan, and I’ve learned to embrace that rather than let it get in the way. Whether it’s changing lighting conditions, a difficult location, a timeline falling behind, an unexpected change in the environment, or simply having to work with whatever is available, I enjoy figuring out how to make the best possible image out of the situation I’m given.
That’s probably what I’m most proud of. I’ve learned how to stay calm, think creatively, and find solutions when things aren’t ideal. I don’t expect every production to be perfect; I expect things to change, and I enjoy the challenge of adapting to them.
After more than 250 weddings and countless corporate events and productions, I’ve developed the ability to walk into an unfamiliar environment, quickly understand what needs to be done, and get to work. Whether I’m leading a production or joining another team, I want the people I’m working with to know they can rely on me to do my job, communicate well, and find a way forward when something doesn’t go as planned.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think the biggest shift will be the relationship between technology and authenticity. AI will continue changing how we plan, film, and edit, making many parts of the creative process faster and more efficient. At the same time, I think genuine, human-created content will become even more valuable as AI-generated content becomes more common.
I’m already seeing the event industry move toward creating more than just a recap video. Short-form content, same-day edits, speaker clips, branded content, and content designed to keep an event relevant long after it ends are becoming increasingly important to our shoots.
I think the technology and platforms will continue to change, but the fundamentals won’t. People will always want to feel something, remember important moments, and work with someone they can trust to capture those moments authentically.
