Today we’d like to introduce you to Jakira Williams.
Hi Jakira, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Jakira Williams, a native of Prince George’s County, Maryland, is a daughter of God, Purpose Pusher, Glory Carrier, Entrepreneur, Wife, and Mother. Born into a dynamic family of women who modeled encouragement, support, and the true meaning of sisterhood, Jakira’s foundation was built on a belief she carries to this day when women come together, a movement is birthed and change is bound to happen.
From an early age, sisterhood was woven into the fabric of who Jakira is. She experienced the power of women encouraging, uplifting, supporting, and believing in one another, and it became a foundational part of her life. Today, her greatest desire is to serve as a living testimony to other women and be a billboard for God’s glory. Yet, the journey to becoming persists.
Jakira spent years battling low self-esteem, a lack of confidence, feeling unseen, and the fear of inadequacy. But even while navigating her own internal challenges, she discovered something that never changed. She finds joy in uplifting and encouraging other women through real-life conversations and being transparent with her own story.
She now strives to use her voice to illuminate the voices of other women and to help women recognize that they have a voice, a story, a purpose, and a God-given identity that deserve to be seen and heard, too.
A burning desire formed in Jakira to build a community of women in 2021, during a time in life when she recognized the need for community and a sense of belonging. And in 2023, she brought Sis, I See You to social media as a refreshing space for women. What started as a vision for community has grown into a declaration and a movement dedicated to bringing life back to women.
Sis, I See You is a soft place to land—a space where women can exhale, be fully present, and be reminded that they do not have to navigate life alone. Through intentional experiences, Sis, I See You cultivates an environment where women feel seen, heard, loved, valued, and supported. It is a place where women are encouraged to see themselves the way God sees them, break off limitations, rediscover purpose, reclaim their identity, and walk boldly in their God-given destiny through complete healing and total transformation. For Jakira, Sis, I See You is not just another community or a cute name.
It is a declaration.
A declaration that says:
Sis, you’ve got this.
Sis, you are enough.
Sis, you are called.
No matter what you do, what you have been through, what season you are in, or what titles you carry, you are still the WOMAN God created you to be.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Life has been full of twists, turns, creative loops, leaps, and valleys. Along the way, I developed certain habits and thought processes that I believed were ways to “protect” myself. But let’s just say, I am in a season of unlearning and relearning. I’ve realized that some of the things I created to protect myself were also limiting me in ways I didn’t fully understand.
Now, as an adult, wife, and mother, I’m redefining who I want to be as a woman of faith and, more importantly, how I want to show up in every space, every day. Motherhood and wifehood have stretched me in ways I could have never imagined.
I’ve had to confront patterns within myself, including people-pleasing and the desire to make everyone else comfortable, sometimes at the expense of myself. I’ve had to learn what it means to honor my own voice, establish boundaries, give myself grace, and recognize that becoming who God has called me to be is a process.
Some days are better than others, and I’m learning to be okay with that.
I’m also learning that I may never get “back” to a place I once was and maybe I’m not supposed to. Instead, I’m finding new ways to appreciate where I am now, honor everything that has shaped me, and trust where God is ultimately taking me. Because this journey has taught me that I don’t have to have it all figured out to keep moving forward. I can be a woman of faith and still be growing. I can be a wife and mother and still be discovering myself. I can have hard days and still have hope.
I’m learning to give myself the same grace, compassion, and encouragement that I so easily give to other women.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
By day, I am an HR professional, where I spend my time doing all things professional development and day-to-day HR operations. Beyond my profession, I believe GOD has called me to build up the WOMAN through authenticity, healing, belonging, empowerment, and service, and creating spaces where women feel seen, supported, equipped, and encouraged to walk boldly in who God has called them to be.
I am proud that I have allowed God to use every part of my story, the beautiful parts, the difficult parts, the lessons, and even the things I once considered weaknesses to now become a source of strength and encouragement for other women. I am proud that I can stand in the thick of still becoming while simultaneously helping someone else recognize the woman she is becoming.
What truly sets me apart from others is that I don’t shy away from what makes me, me. I am transparent and not afraid to share with a sister or a friend my shortcomings. But what sets what I’ve built with God apart is that Sis, I See You is not something I turn on when I’m creating content or hosting an experience. It is a message I carry into my everyday life. Whether I’m having a one-on-one conversation with someone or just simply reminding someone of her worth, I strive to live out the declaration: Sis, I See You.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
This is an interesting question because I don’t believe in “luck,” but I do believe in God’s favor, divine alignment, and being called to purpose. When I look back at my life, I believe that God used and is still using everything to write a beautiful story. Nothing is ever wasted.
I believe God favors people, calls people, and places them in rooms and situations for a purpose. My journey with Sis, I See You, and life in general has been a testament to that. What may look like coincidence or luck from the outside, I see as God orchestrating the right people, experiences, opportunities, and lessons at the right time.
Even the difficult seasons have served a purpose. They have stretched me, increased my capacity, strengthened my faith, and ultimately given me a story that I can use to encourage other women.
So, I wouldn’t say luck has played a role in my life or business, but GOD surely has.
