Today we’d like to introduce you to Becky Wetzler.
Hi Becky, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been drawn to space planning and thinking through spaces 3-dimensionally, and interior design is the perfect fusion of my 2 great passions of art and architecture. With a background in both fine art and interior design I love developing practical ways to incorporate beautiful forms and textures within a space. I genuinely love what I do!
Originally from the Pacific Northwest, I often draw inspiration from both my Seattle roots and background as a skilled painter, applying natural elements to infuse a design with beauty and light and experimenting with new colors and textures to create bespoke interiors. I pride myself on my versatility of design, and over the past 16 years of my career have had the privilege of working on beautiful projects in Washington State, Colorado, Florida, New York, Massachusetts, Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC.
6 years ago I started working at Haus Interior Design and quickly moved up to the senior designer. Two years ago, with the support and encouragement from my husband, I made the decision to step into the role as the new owner of Haus, as the founder was stepping down. I’m proud to have become a business owner under the age of 40 and it further clarified for me why I love this creative career I’ve chosen. I enjoy the additional challenges presented in this new role for leadership and further developing my potential. As a way to give back to our community, I’ve worked with local community colleges to assist their design programs and help give future designers a sense for the professional side of their field.
And I’m so proud of and grateful for my team and for our continued drive and success! Our team strongly believes in our motto that great interiors transform lives. Owned and operated by 2 creative and capable women, we proudly serve our clientele with an exceptional client experience to deliver those great interiors.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As a female interior designer, I occasionally encounter the feeling that I’m just “the woman” on the job site, and at times it’s proven a challenge to have the typically male-dominated construction industry take me seriously and listen to my input. It seems to be a prevailing stigma, but I continue to work hard to validate the importance of my skill sets, and advocate for my clients and their design goals. I’ve made great strides in fostering respectful and productive working relationships with a broad network of contractors and look forward to witnessing continued progress.

What makes you happy?
Being outside in nature brings me so much happiness and peace. My husband and I love to bike, hike, and kitesurf together. Even while doing one of these more rigorous activities, the outdoors has a way of quieting my mind. I do some of my best thinking during these times and have found lots of design inspiration while surrounded by lush landscapes. I love the focused, quality time that comes from these activities, and it always leaves me with a pleasant sense of a mental reset.
