Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Taylor.
Hi Olivia , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I first began releasing music professionally back in 2018. I began to perform at open mics around my area in 2022. I formally announced my career launch on the WUSA 9’s DMV Soundcheck stage on national television. That performance was quickly followed up by a guest appearance at the Bethesda Theatre, where I performed for 93.9 WKYS’ 2nd Annual Women’s Empowerment Brunch. Since then, I’ve been featured, interviewed and received radio play from many different stations such as, WOLB 1010 AM, 95.5 WPGC, HotMixVA and more! Recently, I’ve stepped into the event hosting business. I now have a monthly residency at a local art gallery called Station 3510.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It most certainly hasn’t been a smooth road. Many broken promises and false supporters later, and I now have a true close-knit community around me that supports me and can truly see the vision.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an alternative R&B singer/songwriter and event host! My discography is an audial euphoria that allows you to melt and feel every emotion. So far I’ve been able to host pop-up vendors, performers, paint & sips, artist showcases and even feeding and caring for the homeless. My mission is to craft a space where anyone from ANY background can feel safe, supported and shown off. My next events are my movie marathon and a mental health resource day for the community. I truly am grateful for the impact I’ve been able to have on the community.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
A quote I’ll never forget, “Your network is your net worth”. Such a true saying. We must always be ready to put ourselves out there and cultivate new partnerships. No one makes it alone, but with a team you can excel above many. Good mentors are people who see who you can be and help you grow into the best version of yourself. If you have to question your mentor’s intentions, definitely find a new one!
