Conversations with Dana G

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana G.

Dana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been editing and filming since I was a kid whether it was photos or videos. The editing I saw was cool and satisfying to me so I learned how to try to replicate the edits I liked. Editing has always been apart of my life but initially I didn’t think it was something special. During my time in high school I reflected on what career path resonated with me and thought to turn editing into a career. I started to practice editing, build my portfolio, and try different opportunities.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve definitely faced some challenges being a freelance video editor. Over time, it’s been hard staying motivated, getting clients, and knowing what to do next. Building a business from scratch sometimes feels impossible while other times I couldn’t imagine things not working out.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a video editor that specializes in social media content editing as well as music video editing. I like to make videos fun, engaging, and interesting for others to watch regardless of the content. I use both Davinci Resolve and CapCut as my two main softwares for editing depending on the project. I get to know my clients style and personality to incorporate into their content, while also making it enjoyable for others.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The book “The Four Agreements” by Don Miguel Ruiz is something I always reference in my daily life as a reminder. I also heavily utilize my notes app and the app Notion to stay organized and dump all of my creative ideas.
