Today we’d like to introduce you to Renika Ramsey.
Hi Renika, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My journey into healthcare wasn’t something I had planned. At the time, I was unemployed and searching for a new direction. I walked into a career school intending to learn more about becoming a pharmacy technician. After taking an aptitude assessment and talking with the admissions team, they suggested I consider medical billing and coding instead. They believed it was a better fit for my strengths, and after learning more about the field, I decided to take a chance on something I had never even considered before.
That one decision completely changed the course of my life.
What started as a way to find stable employment quickly became a passion. I discovered that medical coding wasn’t just about assigning codes, it required critical thinking, problem-solving, and understanding the story behind a patient’s care. I found myself constantly wanting to learn more and challenge myself.
As my career progressed, I continued investing in my education, earning additional certifications and degrees while balancing work and raising my two children as a single mother. There were many moments when the journey felt overwhelming, but each challenge strengthened my resilience and reminded me why I started.
Today, I work in healthcare at the federal level, teach and mentor future medical coding professionals as an AAPC Approved Instructor, and am building Health Admin Solutions to help healthcare organizations improve their operations, compliance, and financial performance.
Looking back, it’s amazing to think that my entire career began because someone saw potential in me that I couldn’t yet see in myself. That experience taught me to stay open to unexpected opportunities because sometimes the path you never planned becomes the one you’re meant to follow.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Every time I’ve stepped into a new chapter, whether it was earning another certification, pursuing graduate school, changing careers, or starting my own business, I’ve had to navigate uncertainty.
The biggest challenges weren’t always external; they were internal. Learning to believe in myself, pushing past self-doubt, and having the confidence to pursue opportunities before I felt completely ready were some of the hardest battles. Growth requires you to leave your comfort zone, and that can be uncomfortable.
There were also real sacrifices. As a single mother, there were countless early mornings, late nights, weekends spent studying, and moments when I had to choose long-term goals over short-term comfort. Building a career while continuing my education meant giving up time, energy, and sometimes sleep. It wasn’t always easy, but I kept reminding myself that those sacrifices were creating opportunities not only for me, but for my children.
One lesson I’ve learned is that there isn’t always a blueprint for the life you want. Sometimes you have to create your own path, even when you can’t clearly see where it leads. That takes faith, resilience, and the willingness to keep moving forward despite uncertainty.
Looking back, I’m grateful for those challenges because they shaped my character far more than my successes ever could. They taught me perseverance, discipline, and the importance of trusting that consistent effort eventually pays off.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Health Admin Solutions, LLC?
Health Admin Solutions was founded with a simple mission: to help healthcare organizations strengthen their operations while equipping healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed.
We specialize in healthcare administration consulting, revenue cycle optimization, medical coding education, compliance, and operational improvement. Whether we’re helping an organization identify inefficiencies, improve documentation and coding accuracy, strengthen compliance, or training healthcare professionals, our goal is always the same, to create systems that improve both organizational performance and the patient experience.
What sets Health Admin Solutions apart is that we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Every healthcare organization has unique challenges, so we take the time to understand their goals and develop practical, sustainable strategies that fit their needs. We combine technical expertise with a genuine passion for education because we believe lasting improvements happen when people understand the “why” behind the process, not just the process itself.
One of the things I’m most proud of is building a brand that reflects both excellence and service. My experiences as a healthcare professional, educator, and consultant have shaped the way I approach every client relationship. I understand the pressures healthcare professionals face because I’ve experienced many of them myself.
