Today we’d like to introduce you to Tineka Harmon.
Hi Tineka , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Some of the most meaningful dreams are born from life’s hardest moments.
Ebony Grace Wellness began long before there was a business name, a logo, or an office. It began through seasons of adversity that taught me what it means to keep going when life feels uncertain. Those experiences didn’t define me, but they shaped my heart. They gave me a deep compassion for people carrying burdens that often go unseen and a desire to remind others that healing is possible.
Later in life, I made the decision to return to school and pursue a degree in social work. It wasn’t the easiest path, but it was the right one. With each class, internship, and client interaction, my purpose became clearer: to create a place where people feel seen, heard, valued, and supported as they navigate life’s challenges.
Ebony Grace Wellness was initially created to provide individual therapy to those in need. But as the vision grew, so did the opportunities to serve. What began as one-on-one counseling has expanded into psychoeducational opportunities, groups, community outreach, and a growing commitment to whole-person wellness. Today, the vision continues to evolve into a multidisciplinary wellness center where healing extends beyond therapy alone.
Even the name carries a special meaning. My husband and I wanted a name that reflected both our heritage and our faith. “Ebony” honors the beauty, strength, and richness of our culture. “Grace” reflects the unearned love, hope, and restoration that have sustained us through every season. Together, they represent the foundation upon which this practice was built.
Ebony Grace Wellness exists because I believe no one should have to face life’s challenges alone. My story is one of resilience, but more importantly, it is a testament to what can happen when hope meets purpose. It is my prayer that every person who walks through our doors leaves believing what I have come to know for myself: healing is possible, your story matters, and your greatest chapter may still be ahead.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
People often see the finished product, but they rarely see the journey it took to get there.
Ebony Grace Wellness was born from a vision, but that vision was refined through adversity.
My path has never been easy. Years before Ebony Grace Wellness became a reality, I made the decision to return to school and pursue a degree in social work. During that journey, I became critically ill and spent months hospitalized. While connected to IVs, tubes, and machines, I refused to let my circumstances determine my future. I completed assignments from my hospital bed, holding tightly to the belief that God still had a purpose for my life.
That season changed me forever.
As I grew professionally as a social worker, another vision began to take shape. I dreamed of creating a practice that integrated clinical excellence with compassion, faith, and biblical principles, a place where people could find healing for both the mind and the heart while always feeling respected, safe, and valued.
Then life happened.
As I began laying the foundation for Ebony Grace Wellness, I experienced multiple losses within my family. I became the primary caregiver for my grandparents as their health rapidly declined. Walking alongside them through illness and eventually saying goodbye was one of the greatest honors and one of the deepest heartbreaks—of my life.
At the same time, my church closed its doors, my husband unexpectedly lost his job, and the weight of grief, uncertainty, and responsibility became overwhelming. There were days when depression made it difficult to see beyond the next step.
Yet even in those moments, God continued to nurture the dream He had placed in my heart.
Building Ebony Grace Wellness required perseverance. For months, I searched for the right office space, only to encounter one disappointment after another. Every door seemed to close just as quickly as it opened. Then, in an unexpected act of generosity, my realtor offered to let me use her office at no cost. For three months, I faithfully served clients from that borrowed space, continuing to build the practice one session, one relationship, and one referral at a time.
Eventually, another door opened.
Today, Ebony Grace Wellness has a home of its own.
What began as a vision to provide individual therapy has grown into something much greater than I ever imagined. We are expanding our team to welcome additional clinicians so that more individuals and families can access quality mental health care.
Our mission has also grown beyond the therapy room.
We’ve had the privilege of partnering with organizations and communities to educate, encourage, and inspire. From speaking at a local university and serving faith communities, to partnering with NAMI and hosting a mental health conference, every opportunity has reinforced our belief that healing happens not only one person at a time, but one community at a time.
Looking ahead, our vision continues to expand.
While individual therapy will always remain at the heart of what we do, Ebony Grace Wellness is becoming a multidisciplinary wellness center committed to addressing mental health on both the individual and community levels. We believe lasting change requires collaboration. That’s why we are building partnerships with clinicians, healthcare providers, faith communities, schools, and organizations that share our commitment to promoting wellness, reducing stigma, and increasing access to care.
Every challenge we’ve faced has become part of our foundation.
Ebony Grace Wellness is more than a practice. It is living proof that purpose can persevere through pain, that hope can survive heartbreak, and that what begins as a personal calling can grow into a community mission.
Our story isn’t one of perfection. It’s a story of faith, resilience, service, and grace.
And we’re just getting started
