Today we’d like to introduce you to Josanne WRIGHT.
Hi Josanne, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We started “Autistically Speaking” from our real-life journey as a family navigating Andre’s autism diagnosis at 18 months old. What began as learning how to understand his needs, advocate for him, and find support slowly turned into sharing our experiences online—honestly, the highs, the challenges, and everything in between.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all—it hasn’t been a smooth road.
There were moments of confusion right after Andre’s diagnosis, learning how to navigate therapies, systems, and services while still trying to just understand our child. There were also emotional ups and downs—feeling isolated at times, not always having the right support, and figuring things out through trial and error.
As he grew, new challenges came too—communication, school environments, public perception, and learning how to advocate strongly when we had to.
But even in the hardest seasons, those struggles pushed us to learn, grow, and eventually share our journey so other families wouldn’t feel alone or overwhelmed the way we sometimes did.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My professional journey really grew out of my lived experience as an Autism mom. What started as advocacy for my son Andre naturally evolved into “Autistically Speaking” — a platform where I share our journey while educating, supporting, and empowering other families navigating autism.
Over time, I stepped into roles as an Autism advocate, content creator, and certified Autism coach. I’ve had the opportunity to build a community online, collaborate with professionals in the field, and create spaces—both virtually and in-person—where parents feel seen, heard, and supported.
Today, my work blends storytelling, education, and community-building, and I’m currently expanding into workshops and retreats designed to bring families, professionals, and resources together in one supportive space.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
As parents, especially on the autism journey, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, isolated, or unsure if you’re “doing it right.” But your love, your consistency, and your willingness to show up for your child already means more than you realize.
Give yourself grace. You’re going to learn as you go, and that’s okay. There is no perfect roadmap—only progress, small wins, and growth along the way.
Also, don’t be afraid to connect with other parents, ask questions, and lean into community. The right support system can remind you on the hard days that you are not alone, and that you are doing better than you think.
Keep going. Even on the days it feels slow, you are still moving forward.
