Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Corum.
Hi Daniel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I moved to Maryland in February of 2001. Started building homes in the Canton neighborhood for a good friend of mine Matt Riemer. Learned all my building skills and costuming framing from him and Chris Chavis. Eventually starting out on my own and creating the Black Diamond Contracting name.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been by far a smooth road. From being not paid on a $125000 job to dealing with Covid and dealing with the economy. The Black Diamond name also does heavy hauling so when one side slowed down there was work on the other side. You just have to learn to adapt to everyday life and try and be a few steps ahead
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As an all around builder we try to focus on customization of interior walls. We specialize in media centers lighted accent walls barrel ceilings tray ceilings coffered cielings and much more. If your wife can find it on Pinterest we can build it. We’ve built several homes and even a few hotels in the Maryland area. Known for tenant build outs and metal framing and acoustical cielings. Epoxy floors are a big hit with us as well rather it be a simple garage flake floor to a metallic garage floor we can handle it.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I have several mentors. I always look at people who I do jobs for and see what makes them a better person than I am. And then I start asking questions. It never hurts to ask questions because you never know what the next person may know. If you never ask you will never know.
I always reach out to people who are in the same field to just keep my name fresh in there mind and to let them know I am always there to help.
