Today we’d like to introduce you to Emmanuel Zamba.
Hi Emmanuel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a Nigerian-American hip hop and R&B artist from Prince George’s County, Maryland,(the DMV). I started my journey by independently writing, recording, and performing locally, building my sound through consistency, dedication, and live performances.
Over time, I expanded my reach by performing at venues such as A3C, Howard Theatre, and the Fillmore, performing at over 100 shows while continuing to grow my audience and refine my craft. Alongside performing, I developed my songwriting and collaboration skills, contributing behind the scenes to other artists’ projects.
Today, I continue to build my catalog and artistic identity as both a performer and songwriter, focused on creating meaningful music, expanding my impact, and growing for the long term.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been very bumpy, to say the least, lol. Dealing with seasons of feeling unmotivated to continue pursuing the craft, along with experiencing the loss of my father, made the journey very challenging. However, it also became a rewarding experience to continue writing and creating.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a songwriter and rapper. I’ve written on Billboard-charting singles and have amassed millions of streams on songs I’ve contributed to. Known for impactful lyrical organization, I use my platform to address heavy subject matters while incorporating humor as well. Taking the approach of putting medicine in the candy is what sets me apart.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Risk-taking is essential for growth in life. I’ve taken multiple risks, such as dropping out of college to pursue my music career and missing important milestone moments for friends and family to perform on the road. I believe that if you want to achieve anything in life, there is a certain level of risk you have to be willing to take.
