Exploring Life & Business with Janice Butts of Joyful Bundts

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janice Butts.

Hi Janice, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In 2019 the government shutdown. Both my husband, Eric and I worked for the DC Courts, a federal government agency. We did not know how long it would last. Paychecks stopped coming in and I started thinking…. We can use savings to pay our bills but then WHAT? I started brainstorming with my friend, Marilyn on what type of business I could start. I said people like my potato salad, She said I always liked your pound cake. I said humm no refrigeration needed, I could mail cakes that sounds like an idea. I asked would you pay for that. She responded “Yep!” We worked out a price and she was my first customer. We talked business names and since my Initials are “JB” I thought of l names with those initials and “Joyful Bundts was born. I baked 8 cakes per day and a business was born. I heard a guy on a podcast say “You are not a real business until you get a website”…so www.joyfulbundts.com was born. The government opened 3 months later but people still placed orders – so the baking continued. I added glaze options to my 7 up pound cakes then I added Carrot cake with walnuts to the menu and finally pineapple upside down minis. Now I take orders and turn them around 2 days later. Plus I host a “Joyful Bundts Hour” the second Saturday of the month. When you have a sweet tooth, please consider Joyful Bundts for “A cake that puts a smile on your face!”
