Life & Work with Jessi Full of Maryland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessi Full.

Hi Jessi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my photography career when my daughter was born. I loved taking photos of her and that turned into taking photos for fun for family and friends. After that first year I decided to take my passion for photography full time and now here I am over 10 years later. My main focus is wedding photography but I also photograph families, newborns, branding, and seniors.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business from scratch definitely comes with bumps in the road. I think the hardest part is learning how to balance work/family life. I am very thankful for my husband and mother who help with my kids when I am working. I couldn’t do this job without them. Ive also made changes within my business to limit how many weddings and sessions to take on per month and per year.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in weddings and I think what sets me apart is my commitment to my couples to be along for the whole ride. I am able to e a great resource when it comes to timeline questions, logistics, creative solutions, even little things like color pallets for bridesmaid dresses! Since I limit how much I take on per year I am really able to connect with my clients and help give advise when needed.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
The first few years in business each January I would reflect on the past year and think about where I struggled. In the beginning of my career off camera lighting was something I knew I needed to master. I searched online to find photographers who were clearly lighting masters and reach out to them to see if they’d be willing to mentor me. 100% of the time they said yes. It was a great way to learn skills that needed improving.
