Rising Stars: Meet Ray Glasgow of Maryland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ray Glasgow.

Hi Ray , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my journey in the construction and restoration industry at 18 years old. Early on, I worked for a restoration company where I gained hands-on experience in many areas of the trade and developed a strong foundation in the industry. That experience taught me the importance of hard work, attention to detail, and building relationships with clients through quality service.

After about a year and a half, I transitioned to another restoration company where I spent the next 12 years continuing to grow professionally. During that time, I worked in multiple areas of restoration, with a primary focus on painting and finishing work. Those years gave me invaluable experience managing projects, understanding customer needs, and learning the day-to-day operations required to run a successful business.

With over a decade of industry experience behind me, I eventually made the decision to step out on faith and start my own company. I wanted to build a business that reflected my personal standards for professionalism, quality workmanship, and customer service. What started as a vision has now grown into a business I’ve proudly owned and operated for the past 12 years.

Entrepreneurship has come with both challenges and rewards, but the journey has been incredibly fulfilling. Being able to create opportunities, build lasting client relationships, and see the impact of our work firsthand continues to motivate me every day.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the beginning, the business was relatively smooth sailing because I was able to rely on the experience and relationships I had already built throughout my years in the industry. However, like many entrepreneurs, I quickly learned that running your own business comes with a completely different set of challenges. One of the biggest hurdles has been consistently securing both commercial and residential clients while also standing out in a competitive industry.

Building trust and creating long-term relationships with customers has always been a major priority for me. I never wanted the business to be built around one-time jobs only. My goal has always been to provide quality work and professionalism that encourages repeat business and referrals. Over the years, many of our opportunities have come through word of mouth and returning clients, which is something I take great pride in.

Like many businesses, the COVID-19 pandemic also brought unexpected challenges. We had to quickly adapt the way we networked, communicated with clients, and marketed our services. During that time, we became more intentional about expanding our online presence and finding new ways to connect with customers. We also introduced additional services to meet changing client needs and remain competitive during an uncertain time.

Although entrepreneurship comes with challenges, those experiences have helped strengthen both the business and my mindset as an owner. Every obstacle has taught me the importance of adaptability, consistency, and continuing to evolve with the industry.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Glasgow Professional Painting provides both residential and commercial painting services, specializing in interior and exterior painting projects. From single-room residential updates to larger commercial spaces, we focus on delivering quality workmanship, attention to detail, and reliable service on every project. Over the years, we have built a reputation for professionalism, consistency, and creating spaces that clients can truly take pride in.

What sets Glasgow Professional Painting apart is the personal connection we build with our customers. We believe communication, trust, and professionalism are just as important as the finished product. Clients appreciate our timeliness, reliability, and hands-on approach throughout each project. As the owner, I am also the lead painter performing the work, which allows me to maintain quality standards personally and ensure every job is completed with care and attention to detail. That level of involvement gives clients confidence knowing the person they meet with is the same person committed to delivering the final results.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
One of the things I enjoy most about the city is the sense of community and the relationships you can build over time. In this industry, a lot of business comes from word of mouth, repeat customers, and genuine connections, so being part of a city where people support local businesses means a lot. I also appreciate the diversity of the area and the opportunity to work on a wide range of residential and commercial projects, each with its own character and history.

What I enjoy most is being able to serve the community while helping clients bring new life to their homes and businesses. There is something rewarding about seeing a project transform a space and knowing the work leaves a lasting impression. The city has also provided opportunities for growth, networking, and building long-term relationships with customers who continue to support our business year after year.

Like any city, there are always challenges that come with operating a business, but I try to focus more on the positives and the opportunities to continue growing, adapting, and contributing to the community through the work we do.
