Today we’d like to introduce you to Rezia Braza.
Hi Rezia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My husband, Jamal, and I have always been interested in capturing memories with cameras. Jamal first honed his craft in photography, so I modeled in many of his practice portraits while we were in undergraduate together. After we both graduated, he transitioned to videography with music videos, corporate shoots, and live broadcast, while I found myself getting freelance modeling offers. I had always been doing nature photography as well, but modeling for photoshoots also led me to explore more portrait photography. In 2016, we got the opportunity to shoot our very first wedding together. Afterwards, we somehow kept finding ourselves being asked to do more and more weddings! Throughout that journey, we kept honing in on our own style and storytelling experience. Yet, it wasn’t until 2025 when we thought, let’s take a leap of faith in ourselves! We made the jump and officially opened our wedding photography and film business, RedJam Production LLC. RedJam comes from both of our names: RED from my full name initials (REDB), and JAM is from Jamal’s first name. We wanted the company to represent it being co-owned by us, from the name to the philosophy and how we work together.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Although we have been capturing weddings since 2016 and honing our craft all these years, we didn’t jump into officially making this a business until last year. So even though we have the technical expertise and experience to do what we do, we still feel like newbies in the business world and in the industry as licensed professionals. Over the past year, we’ve experimented with our marketing strategies and streamlined our onboarding. It wasn’t always easy to figure out, especially with life, the economy, and us being full time parents at the same time to a bubbly, energetic, and ever-curious toddler. But we’ve really liked the challenge of it all!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We’re REDJAM Production LLC, made up of our photo brand, Rezia Braza Photography, and video brand, Jamal Mortimer Films. As you can tell by those names, we do wedding photo and film. We capture the day with a documentary philosophy where we let the moments unfold naturally and truly, so the memories remain authentic whenever possible. Yet we capture with a cinematic artistry, and when needed, we employ light editorial guidance, so the photos and videos are real, yet look elegant, timeless, and artistic. One of the major obstacles we had to cross early on was initially feeling that our cinematic aesthetic wasn’t really what people thought of when they thought “wedding photo and video.” We were hesitant at first to fully embrace our own personality and style into this work, because we were afraid we wouldn’t be marketable in the wedding industry. However, we’re finding that the more authentic we are to ourselves, our philosophy, and our style, the more beautifully we are able to capture the weddings and the more the couples who want to have us memorialize their day will find us. In this new world of AI for almost everything, we’re proud to say that we’re fully embracing authenticity – from our own personalities to our style, to the way we capture weddings with a documentary philosophy while making the photos and videos look like they’re straight out of a magazine or movie.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Our very first clients, who took the chance on us when we had little to zero wedding capture experience, deserve all the shoutout in the world. Talisha was the very first one who hired us jointly for her wedding. Sulare was the first one who trusted me with her engagement photos. While Haleigh was the first one who trusted us enough to fly us out for her destination wedding in Puerto Rico.
