Hi Krys, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
With a background in hospitality, i have always wanted to own a wedding venue. Creating a special experience to celebrate big moments brings me so much joy. However, owning a large venue with so much overhead felt incredibly overwhelming as a stay-at-home mom with two littles at home. Then one day, im scrolling on tiktok, and this beautiful woman comes up on my feed. Jade owns The Vow Room in Spokane, WA and i just decided i would take a chance. I messaged her and told her how great her idea is and how I would love to do the same. Jade and I became friends instantly! So with her as an incredible mentor and my husband as an amazing support, we decided to open The Vow Room in Downtown Frederick!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Finding a location was very difficult. I knew I had to be in the beautiful historic downtown area but locations are hard to come by. Rent is high and spaces are limited. When we finally found a space that was within budget and beautiful enough to host weddings, they took weeks to tell us they had reservations about the noise levels and denied us. I was so frustrated with the time i missed out on waiting for them to tell us no. Feeling somewhat defeated, my real estate agent asked me take a look at one more space. I walked in and my eyes lit up! It was so perfect, the lighting was stunning, and the location was right in the heart of the city. It was truly meant to be because our new landlord is the best! She fully understand the concept and has been so supportive! It was as if the universe was saying “just wait! We have something better planned!” and then fully delivered.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am so proud of so much what Jade and I have accomplished. We are women owned and have built an incredible community of bad-ass women. I am also a working mom, my son is 4 years old and has attended 90% of my meetings with relators, business partners, and vendors. I joke hell be amazing at business when he gets older cause he’s already gaining the experience!
Most importantly, we are providing a much needed service in the wedding industry. There seems to be much a large gap between the dated, impersonal, courthouse wedding to the lavish, beautiful, and EXPENSIVE venues. We sit in the middle, providing a beautiful, modern space that is cost efficient. I have seen people go into debt for their weddings and then don’t remember half the night. We created a turn-key experience for you to relax, soak it all in, and not have to worry about an outrageous bill afterwards. We want out clients to spend money on building their future, buying a house, or celebrating their love with an incredible honeymoon!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Since we are so new, support comes from word of mouth and engaging on social media. We love collaborating with local vendors so we love when they contact us!
