Today we’d like to introduce you to Carman Wilson.
Hi Carman, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a very family-oriented person. After spending time away from home and family, I wanted to reconnect with each of them. To make that happen, I began planning activities we could share together.
One of those activities was a voiceover class. At the time, I had no idea what voiceover really was, but it sounded fun. I attended the class with one of my sisters. The instructor explained the basics of voiceover and gave each of us the opportunity to record a line for a commercial. When I heard the finished product, I was amazed. I was instantly hooked.
After the class, I began researching the industry and was eventually offered an opportunity to train and record a professional demo. Once I completed the program, I set out to pursue voiceover work on my own. But nothing happened. I knew there was a problem, even though I couldn’t identify it myself.
I reached out to a reputable coach in the industry for guidance. He quickly identified what was missing and helped me refine my skills. After training with him and recording new demos, our work together came to an end with one simple statement from him: “Go forth and book.”
To my surprise, within three weeks, I booked my very first voiceover job.
From that point on, I was off and running. I continued auditioning, continued booking, and steadily grew my business. Today, I have voiced projects for major brands including Nike, Woolite, and DoorDash, along with many other notable clients.
And I’m only getting started.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, the road was not smooth. After my initial training and coaching, I completed more than 1,000 auditions — and I am not exaggerating — without booking a single job. Every answer was no.
I knew something was wrong, but it took time for me to admit it and even longer to ask for help. Once I finally sought guidance from a reputable coach, everything began to change. I refined my skills, strengthened my approach, and started booking consistently. Today, I continue to book.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a professional voice actor specializing in warm, authoritative, and emotionally grounded narration. My work centers on commercial voiceover, corporate and brand storytelling, inspirational content, audiobooks, and projects that require both clarity and human connection. I’m especially known for delivering reads that feel trustworthy, steady, and genuine … the kind of voice that guides rather than performs at people.
What sets me apart is that I don’t approach voiceover as simply “reading copy.” I approach it as communication with purpose. My background and life experience allow me to bring emotional intelligence, nuance, and authenticity into every script. Whether I’m voicing a brand message, a training module, or a deeply personal story, my focus is always the same: helping the listener feel informed, seen, and connected.
My brand is built around the idea of being a guiding light … calm in the noise, clear in the message, and dependable in delivery. Clients often describe my sound as warm, balanced, reassuring, and credible. I’m particularly strong at finding the emotional truth in a script while still serving the business objective behind it.
What I’m most proud of is my persistence and growth in this industry. Early on, I faced a long season of rejection and completed well over a thousand auditions before things began to turn around. Instead of quitting, I invested in training, coaching, and refining my craft. That experience shaped not only my skillset, but also my professionalism, resilience, and empathy for storytelling.
Today, I’m proud to consistently deliver work that clients can trust … both creatively and professionally. I bring preparation, direct communication, emotional depth, and reliability to every project.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is meaningful connection … creating work that genuinely reaches people and leaves them feeling informed, encouraged, understood, or inspired. That’s important to me because I believe voice has the power to shape how people experience a message. A voice can create trust, calm uncertainty, bring clarity, or make someone feel less alone.
In my work and in life, I value integrity, compassion, and reliability. I care deeply about showing up fully prepared, being easy to work with, and honoring the purpose behind every project. Whether I’m voicing a commercial, an audiobook, or a brand story, I want the audience to feel something real, not manufactured.
I’m also driven by growth and perseverance. My journey in voiceover taught me the value of resilience, humility, and continual learning. Those experiences shaped the way I approach both my craft and my relationships with clients … with patience, professionalism, and a strong sense of purpose.
