Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jaliel Thompson.
Hi Dr. Jaliel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Jaliel Thompson—also known as Brother, Minister, Pastor, or Apostle. I overcame significant challenges, broke generational cycles, and proved that success is possible despite adversity.
I’ve struggled with control, substance abuse, identity issues, and more, which have shaped my journey. Difficult experiences affected my confidence and relationships, but through mentorship, I rediscovered my purpose and now help others overcome life’s difficulties.
Born in Washington, DC, with Native American and Dominican roots, I grew up in a complex family dynamic marked by emotional distance and past substance abuse. Early rejection from my father influenced my sense of self.
Childhood trauma included bullying, violence, and sexual abuse, impacting my identity and relationships. My search for acceptance led to inappropriate behavior and expulsion, followed by therapy.
Years of hiding behind false personas resulted in destructive habits until a near-fatal incident prompted me to embrace faith and change my life. Becoming a youth leader brought redemption.
With new determination, I graduated high school early, explored entrepreneurship, earned income, and focused on academic and financial growth.
The Allure and Cost of Fast Money
After one year in college, I became a male exotic dancer for quick money but soon faced substance abuse and risky behavior. Despite large weekly earnings, guilt and addiction escalated.
A Violent Wake-Up Call
A violent robbery forced me to reconsider my choices, prompting a break from that lifestyle.
A Struggle for Redemption
Recovery was tough. I returned to faith but, pressured by finances, worked as an escort while studying, torn between spiritual growth and fast money.
Rock Bottom and the Road to Redemption
Drug use worsened, and despite buying property, I felt empty. Modeling presented new challenges. Recognizing the toll on my well-being, I sought change.
Returning Home
With family support and renewed faith, I went home to recover and rebuild relationships with my father.
TURNING POINT
At twenty, I fell in love, resumed college, secured an internship, and started a business, but later faced heartbreak, unemployment, academic failure, legal trouble, an audit, and a breakdown. Parental support helped me survive a suicide attempt and find renewed purpose.
MY REDEMPTION
Reflection during hardship restored my faith and led to coaching others. Meeting my future wife brought new challenges, but together we navigated setbacks, married, had a son, and developed mentorship and evangelism work. Protecting mentees led to personal injury, but their bravery prevailed.
A Test of Vengeance and the Power of Forgiveness
After being attacked, I struggled with revenge but ultimately chose forgiveness after a profound spiritual experience.
Lessons in Faith, Forgiveness, and Grace
Adversity deepened my understanding of faith and grace.
Losing My Father and Facing New Challenges
I reconciled with my father before his passing and honored him by engaging in outreach. My wife’s health declined, adding to our challenges, yet we persevered.
A New Career Path and Its Toll
Transitioning from law enforcement to IT and then cybersecurity, I quickly achieved financial success but at the expense of my health due to overwork.
A Remarkable Career Shift and Unprecedented Success
My career shifted dramatically when I became a business proposal writer, overcoming a turbulent job history to secure an $85 million international government contract. After taxes, this milestone netted me $1.8 million, proving that persistence brings results.
However, despite financial success, I struggled to build genuine relationships, as most were influenced by money and expectation. A friendship with someone who shared similar hardships offered support, especially during my father’s passing.
Later, I experienced trauma after unknowingly drinking a tampered beverage, which led to isolation and giving up mentorship. My marriage also faced difficulties due to health issues and loss, intensifying family strain. Ultimately, I realized that true fulfillment demands letting go of material pursuits and embracing faith.
BREAKING CURSES
A Revelation of Generational Curses
I discovered my life’s purpose was to break generational curses in my family, especially those tied to abuse and trauma. Learning of my father’s difficult past prompted me to reevaluate my life and move into my mother’s basement, causing marital strain.
Struggles with Mental Health and Transformation
This period included depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts, which later inspired my work as a Life Coach and Mental Health Counselor. As our family grew, I became a stay-at-home dad to change harmful patterns, though mental health challenges remained and I made plans for my children’s future.
Despair, Exposure, and the Turning Point
For two years, I secretly planned to end my life, completing personal goals and reconnecting with loved ones. My pursuit of happiness led to infidelity, which was revealed during a church service—along with a prophecy about a curse linked to my actions. At the time, my ex-wife was expecting our third child.
A Choice for Life
I confessed everything to my ex-wife, who moved out with our children in March 2017. Despite this loss, I felt resigned to my fate, believing I couldn’t break family curses or face my sons. On April 29th, as I prepared to end my life, a friend’s call asking for help interrupted my plans and ultimately saved me.
Divine Intervention and Redemption
That night, I experienced a vision of angels and Jesus, who assured me I could overcome these challenges and start anew. This encounter brought healing and renewed purpose, prompting me to choose life and recommit to living righteously. I was reminded that redemption is always possible, as Proverbs 24:16 says: “For a just man falleth seven times and rises up again.”
FROM WORSE TO WORSE
A Mother’s Legacy and Final Days
My mother’s support shaped my life. Her passing in September 2025 was a major loss.
Navigating Grief and Family Responsibilities
I paused my ambitions to care for my family after her death, as we managed our grief together.
Honoring Last Wishes and Enduring Challenges
Fulfilling her wishes delayed her funeral due to insurance issues, adding stress.
A Final Goodbye and the Strength to Continue
Though I sang at her service, I honored her with a musical tribute and stepped back from ministry to focus on healing.
A Bit of Joy Amidst Sorrow
I married in August 2025. Though my Mother couldn’t officiate the wedding, my mother attended, making it her final celebration and a lesson in acting promptly.
Loss, Estate, and Choosing to Stand
Handling her estate without a will brought challenges, but I committed to persevere.
FINAL VICTORY
Over five years, I paid off $130,000 debt, overcame adversity, and broke generational cycles. Now, I lead a men’s haven, am happily married, transformed our home, and continue to serve as an Apostle, CEO, author, and mentor.
