Exploring Life & Business with Courtney Jones of Bay Area Counseling & Consultation, LLC.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Jones.

Hi Courtney, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I think about my story, I feel fortunate to have known from a young age that I wanted to be a clinician. That clarity has allowed me to feel like I’m living my life’s purpose every day through this work. One of the reasons I love Social Work so much is that it asks us to see the whole person—not just symptoms, but relationships, systems, access to care, and the environmental factors that shape people’s lives. At its core, this work is about human connection and the responsibility we have to serve others with integrity and compassion.

Before starting Bay Area Counseling & Consultation, I built several programs for larger organizations and discovered that I genuinely enjoy program development and project management. I also learned two additional important lessons: that it’s possible to create sustainable, ethical, high-quality programs that truly help people, and that unfortunately not every workplace values or supports its employees, even when the work itself is essential. I experienced firsthand what it feels like to be undervalued, and that experience helped shape my vision for the kind of practice I wanted to create.

Almost nine years ago, I launched my private practice, which has since grown into what BACC is today—a group practice rooted in trauma-informed care and guided by a strong value system that shapes both our clinical work and our operations. I believe both clinicians and patients thrive when environments value integrity, transparency, and collaboration. Another thing I love about this field is the ability to be creative in our craft as therapists. You can see that reflected in the work we do as we expand healing beyond the traditional office setting. By partnering with a local farm and programs that support people working on substance use recovery, we create experiential spaces that foster regulation, connection, and growth. Our practice also collaborates with holistic, trauma-informed medication prescribers, and our clinicians specialize in modalities such as Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, EMDR, Brainspotting, and the Safe and Sound Protocol. These partnerships and approaches allow us to offer unique, personalized services.

I truly love being a social worker. The values that guide our practice—integrity, compassion, quality, inclusivity, and social justice—shape every decision we make and every space we create for our patients and clinicians.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
All things considered, it has been a relatively smooth road, and I anticipate the practice will continue to grow and flourish in much the same way. That said, there have certainly been growing pains along the way that have caused significant disruptions to healthcare (from the COVID-19 pandemic to the national cyberattack on the healthcare system), which required practices like mine to adapt quickly to new ways of delivering care and managing operations. These experiences demanded creativity, problem solving, and resilience, and they’ve shaped how the run practice operates today.

One of the most consistent challenges continues to be navigating the complexity of our insurance system. Healthcare is constantly evolving, and reimbursement structures often don’t reflect the level of care, expertise, and time required to provide high-quality mental health treatment. Practices frequently have to advocate for both patients and providers to ensure insurance companies uphold their contractual obligations and this advocacy is a very real, week-in and week-out part of running a practice.

Another unique aspect of this work is holding space for large-scale, or MACRO events alongside our patients in real time. Current events and broader societal stressors impact everyone—including providers. In those moments, clinicians are supporting others while also living through the same circumstances themselves. It requires self-awareness, support, and commitment to the work, but it’s also a powerful reminder of why this work matters so much.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Bay Area Counseling & Consultation, LLC (BACC) is a trauma-informed mental health group practice dedicated to providing values-driven care. Our clinicians specialize in areas such as neurodivergence, complex trauma, anxiety, and substance use disorders. We are deeply committed to evidence-based treatment and track psychometrics throughout the patient journey to ensure our work is thoughtful, measurable, and effective. While symptom reduction is important, we also place a strong emphasis on preventative care—helping patients build resilience, develop insight, and strengthen the tools needed to navigate life’s challenges before they escalate.

What sets BACC apart is our willingness to think creatively about how healing can happen while still remaining grounded in evidence-based care. Therapy doesn’t have to look only one way, and we encourage clinicians to bring intention and innovation into their craft while maintaining a strong focus on quality and safety. Providers are trained in modalities such as EMDR, Brainspotting, ACT, Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy, and the Safe and Sound Protocol. We also partner with a local farm and community programs that support individuals working on substance use recovery, creating opportunities for experiential work that help people regulate, connect, and grow in ways that can feel different from traditional office-based therapy.

We are also proud of the role we play in training the next generation of clinicians. Through our internship program, we emphasize trauma-informed care, ethical practice, and the importance of creating environments where both patients and clinicians feel supported and valued. When clinicians are well trained and working in healthy environments, the quality of care naturally follows.

Integrity, compassion, quality, inclusivity, and social justice guide how we operate and the spaces we create for both our patients and clinicians. Our goal is to ensure people feel safe, respected, and supported as they engage in meaningful work toward healing and growth.
