Daily Inspiration: Meet Dr. Jennifer Bryant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jennifer Bryant.

Hi Dr. Jennifer, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been one of resilience, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to lifting others as I climb.

I began my career in the federal government as a clerk-typist and worked my way up over 37 years to become an Executive Director and corporate Chief of Staff. Along the way, I led large, complex teams, managed enterprise-level initiatives, led high-impact programs, including a women’s business resource group with than 24,000 members. But my story isn’t just about titles. it’s about transformation.

I’m a first-generation college graduate who worked during the day and attended school at night, and did janitorial work to fund my education. I grew up watching my mother, who had a fifth-grade education and later battled bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, pour strength and love into our family despite unimaginable challenges. Her life, legacy, and faith planted the seeds for my passion for leadership, service, and mental resilience.

After years of operating in high-pressure government and corporate environments, I realized that many high-performing women, especially those in mid-career, were stuck in what I call the “frozen middle”: overworked, under-recognized, and overlooked for advancement. I knew I wanted to help change that narrative.

That calling led me to launch Reaching From Within, An Empowerment Journey LLC, over 8 years ago where I now work full time as a leadership strategist, executive coach, and facilitator. I coach leaders and partner with organizations and federal agencies to build trust-based cultures that improve engagement, retention, and performance. I also launched Step Into Leadership Greatness Foundation Inc.(501c3) in honor of my mother, Queen Esther Baxter, to provide scholarships and leadership development for first-generation students.

Today, I’m an international bestselling author, a Forbes Coaches Council contributor, and a global speaker who blends lived experience, leadership science, and faith-rooted resilience into every room I enter. My work is guided by one core belief: leadership starts from within, and when people are supported, seen, and empowered, they don’t just succeed… they multiply impact.

This journey hasn’t been linear, easy, or perfect, but it’s been purposeful. And I’m just getting started.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road, and I think that’s what makes the journey meaningful.

I grew up in a household shaped by both deep love and deep challenges. My mother had a fifth-grade education and later battled bipolar disorder and schizophrenia, which meant I learned early how to be resilient, resourceful, and emotionally strong. There were times when stability felt fragile, and I carried responsibilities far beyond my years. Those experiences taught me grit, compassion, and how to lead with empathy long before I ever held a formal leadership role.

Professionally, I started as a clerk-typist and worked my way up over 37 years to become an Executive Director and corporate Chief of Staff. That climb wasn’t easy. I faced moments of self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and the unspoken pressure many women, especially Black women, carry to work twice as hard for half the recognition. I often found myself in environments where I was the only one in the room who looked like me, and I had to learn how to advocate for myself while still leading with integrity.

Entrepreneurship brought its own challenges. Leaving the security of a successful Corporate career to build Reaching From Within required a massive mindset shift. I had to learn branding, marketing, pricing, systems, and sales, often through trial and error. There were seasons where revenue was inconsistent, visibility felt slow, and I questioned whether I was doing “enough” to make the impact I envisioned. Building a nonprofit alongside a for-profit business added another layer of complexity—fundraising, grant writing, compliance, and volunteer management stretched me in ways corporate leadership never did.

I’ve also navigated personal losses, health scares within my family, and moments where life demanded my attention just as my business was gaining momentum. Learning how to pause without quitting, and how to redefine productivity through grace instead of grind has been one of my hardest lessons.

But every struggle sharpened my purpose. Each setback deepened my compassion. And every season of uncertainty strengthened my faith and clarity about why I do this work. The road hasn’t been smooth, but it has been sacred. Every obstacle shaped the leader, coach, and woman I am today, and I wouldn’t trade the journey for anything.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At the heart of everything I do is one mission: helping leaders rise with purpose, clarity, and confidence from the inside out.

I am a leadership strategist, certified and credentialed executive coach, international bestselling author, and facilitator, and I work with both individuals and organizations to build trust-based cultures that improve engagement, retention, and performance. Through my company, Reaching From Within, An Empowerment Journey LLC, I coach mid-career professionals, especially women, who feel stuck, burned out, or overlooked, and I partner with organizations and federal agencies to deliver leadership development programs, workshops, and culture-shifting initiatives.

I specialize in mindset transformation, resilience, leadership identity, and self-advocacy. Much of my work is centered on what I call the “frozen middle”—high-performing professionals who are doing all the right things but still aren’t being seen, sponsored, or advanced. I help them break through internal barriers, clarify their leadership voice, and step into roles and opportunities they once thought were out of reach.

I’ve created several proprietary frameworks that anchor my work, including the R.O.O.T. Framework (Reflect, Own, Operate, Trust), the C.H.A.R.T. Resiliency Framework (Clarify, Harness, Align, Resilience, Thrive), and my B.E.L.I.E.V.E. Framework, which helps leaders:
**B**uild self-awareness,
**E**levate emotional intelligence,
**L**ead with authenticity,
**I**ntentionally set boundaries,
**E**mpower their voice,
**V**ision their future, and
**E**xecute with confidence.

These frameworks are designed to be practical, actionable, and deeply personal, so people don’t just learn leadership theory, they embody leadership in their daily lives and careers.

I’m also the founder of Step Into Leadership Greatness Foundation Inc., a nonprofit I created in honor of my mother. Through the foundation, I provide scholarships and leadership development opportunities to first-generation college students because I know firsthand how transformative access, mentorship, and belief can be.

I’m known for blending lived experience, leadership science, and faith-rooted resilience into real-world, no-fluff strategies that people can actually use. What truly sets me apart is the rare combination of being a certified and credentialed coach, a former federal government executive and corporate Chief of Staff with over 37 years of leadership experience, and someone who has lived the very struggles my clients are navigating.

I didn’t just study leadership. I lived it at every level, rising from clerk-typist to Executive Director and Chief of Staff. I understand the boardroom and the break room. I know what it feels like to be underestimated, overlooked, and overworked, and I also know how to strategically navigate complex systems of power with integrity, confidence, and grace.

What I’m most proud of isn’t a title or a trophy – it’s transformation. I’m proud of the women who’ve been promoted, negotiated raises, launched businesses, reclaimed their confidence, and found their voice. I’m proud of creating scholarship pathways for students who never thought college leadership was “for people like them.”

Another moment, I’m most proud of is that by the age of 55 I positioned myself to retire twice, and I thank my younger self for being disciplined enough to learn from others, invest wisely, and partner with a trusted financial advisor to build long-term financial flexibility.

My work isn’t about hype. It’s about healing, clarity, and courageous action. I meet people where they are, honor their lived experiences, and help them build a leadership identity that is authentic, sustainable, and impactful. That blend of certification, credibility, lived experience, and real-world federal and corporate leadership expertise is what makes my work different, and why the people I serve don’t just grow, they transform.

What makes you happy?
What truly makes me happy is seeing people step into who they were always meant to be.

There is nothing more fulfilling to me than watching a woman who once doubted herself walk into a room with confidence, advocate for her worth, and finally claim the seat she’s earned at the table. Seeing my clients get promoted, launch businesses, negotiate raises, heal from burnout, or simply breathe easier because they finally feel seen and supported—that brings me deep joy. It reminds me every day why I chose this path.

I’m also deeply fulfilled by the impact of the nonprofit I founded, Step Into Leadership Greatness Foundation Inc. Providing scholarships and leadership development opportunities to first-generation students—students who remind me so much of my younger self—fills my heart in a way nothing else can. Watching them realize that their dreams are valid and their voices matter is priceless.

Beyond my work, what makes me happy is living a life rooted in faith, purpose, and presence. Quiet mornings with prayer, reflection, gratitude, and intention. Meaningful conversations with my husband and children. Celebrating small wins, honoring milestones, and creating memories with the people I love. Serving my community. Walking in nature. Laughing freely.

Happiness, for me, isn’t about accolades or titles. It’s about alignment. It’s knowing that my life, my work, and my values are in harmony. It’s the peace that comes from using my story to help others rise. And that’s why I wake up grateful every single day.
