Check Out Sunnie Owens’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sunnie Owens.

Hi Sunnie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Sunnie Cosmetics was introduced to the world on February 7, 2020. I’ve been a makeup artist since 2018, and while in makeup school, I was introduced to mini facials. I quickly fell in love with the process and naturally excelled at it. It felt like the perfect complement to makeup, since skincare and makeup truly go hand in hand.

At the time, I was using store-bought products to perform these services, but after some thought, I asked myself, why not create my own? My bonus mother, who helps others start and grow their businesses, encouraged me to turn that idea into action. When she asked what I wanted to do, my answer was simple: I wanted to start my own skincare line.

After researching, shopping, and sampling different products, I launched Sunnie Cosmetics with just four core products. They performed so well that I continued expanding the line, which now includes 22 products. This year, Sunnie Cosmetics proudly celebrates six years in business!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all. I currently run everything on my own with no employees, so every decision and every move falls on me. From budgeting and inventory stocking to shipping products, scheduling pickups, and staying visible across multiple online platforms, the responsibilities never stop.

There are great weeks with consistent customers, and other weeks that are much quieter, which means constantly coming up with new ideas to drive traffic, plan events, send marketing emails, and keep my calendar organized. The list truly goes on, and being self-employed is no joke.

Some days you just need to pause and do nothing, and I take those breaks when needed for my sanity. Even then, there’s always more to be done. Still, the process and outcome are always rewarding. If it were easy, anyone could do it, and that’s what makes the journey worth it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a licensed esthetician, makeup artist, and the owner of Sunnie Cosmetics. My work centers around simplifying skincare and making it accessible, effective, and inclusive for all complexions and ages. I specialize in everyday skincare, makeup, and education, bridging the gap between beauty services and real-life routines that people can actually maintain.

Beyond products, I’m known for creating intentional experiences. From spa days for families and friend groups to skincare education for students, teens, and preteens, my goal is to build confidence through knowledge and self-care.

What I’m most proud of is building Sunnie Cosmetics from the ground up and growing it into a business that strives on realistic results, all while operating as a solo entrepreneur. Staying consistent, adaptable, and faith-driven through the ups and downs has been one of my biggest accomplishments.

What sets me apart is my hands-on approach and authenticity. I don’t just sell products. I educate, serve, and create experiences that meet people where they are. Sunnie Cosmetics is rooted in simplicity, confidence, and community, and that intention is felt in everything I do.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My biggest advice is to be patient with yourself. With time and experience, people will notice your hard work. Stay consistent, remain open to constructive criticism, and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. At the same time, make sure you’re putting in the work to continuously learn and understand the business side of what you’re building.

What I wish I knew when I first started is something I still remind myself of now: patience is key. Stick with it even on the days when you don’t feel motivated to continue. Growth doesn’t happen overnight, but it does happen when you keep showing up. It truly only gets better if you continue to do the work.
