Meet Destiny McKoy of Mom School

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny McKoy.

Destiny, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Absolutely! I didn’t start out with a clear plan or title for what I do now. Like many moms, my journey began in a season of transition. I was navigating balancing motherhood, personal ambition, and a growing sense that I was being called to more than just getting through the days.

Over the years, as I navigated motherhood and homeschooling, I naturally began building community with other moms through friendships, playdates, homeschooling chats and honest conversations about self-care, balance, and the real challenges we were facing. Walking through that season alongside other moms revealed a clear pattern: when the mom is struggling, everything she’s responsible for begins to feel heavier. To top it off, I was experiencing the weight of it all myself, which made it impossible to ignore.

That realization changed everything.

Instead of focusing on one role that moms carry, my mission shifted to support the woman behind it all. I began creating an community and frameworks that help moms reconnect with their identity, build sustainable rhythms that allows them to be all that God created them to be, and move forward with clarity and confidence.

Today, through my coaching community “Mom School” and my show “Activate Your Destiny”, I support moms who are navigating leadership, growth, and purpose in real life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. The biggest challenges weren’t external, they were internal.

Much of my journey has been centered on identity: learning to release control, stop shrinking myself to make others comfortable, and truly understand my value. I had to unlearn the habit of hiding parts of who I am and instead embrace how every piece of my life (faith, motherhood, homeschooling, and business) works together by design.

Another major shift was realizing that consistency and structure didn’t limit my creativity or gifts. In fact, they gave me the space to cultivate them more fully. That understanding took years and is still evolving, because every new season requires a deeper level of self-awareness and adjustment.

Building a business while stewarding motherhood, marriage, homeschooling, and building a family legacy has also come with real challenges. Juggling clients, leadership roles and personal growth with my day to day family life is not easy but it has shaped the way I lead, serve, and support other moms walking a similar path.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Mom School is a faith-rooted coaching and community experience designed to support moms as whole women, not just in one role, but in every space they lead. While it began as a community created to support homeschool moms, it quickly expanded as the deeper need became clear: moms across all walks of life were craving the very support that Mom School provides.

What we’re known for is addressing the root, not just the responsibilities. Many spaces focus on what moms should do better; Mom School focuses on who the mom is becoming. Whether a woman is homeschooling, building a business, leading in her community, or simply trying to regain her sense of self, the work begins with identity, mindset, and alignment.

What sets Mom School apart is my combination of faith, lived experience and professional training. I’m a trained life coach and transformation specialist, a makeup artist, and I’ve completed women’s entrepreneurship training through Cornell University. That blend allows me to support moms not only from experience, but with tools, frameworks, and structure that create real, sustainable change. I haven’t just lived this journey. I’ve studied it.

In addition to Mom School, I’m also the host of Activate Your Destiny, a branch of the Mom School mission that creates space for deeper conversations around calling, growth, and walking boldly in the assignments God has placed on our lives. This show can be viewed on my YouTube Channel @Destiny Faith McKoy or listened to on your favorite podcast platforms. Through coaching, community, and ongoing dialogue, both platforms work together to support moms at every stage of their journey.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the clarity and integrity behind the mission. Mom School isn’t about hustling harder or adding more pressure; it’s about creating space for moms to grow intentionally while honoring the many roles they already carry. Everything offered, from coaching to community, is designed to strengthen the woman so that everything connected to her life can thrive.

What I want readers to know most is this: Mom School exists because when a mom is supported, grounded, and confident in who she is, she becomes a stronger foundation for her family, her work, and her legacy. I believe that motherhood is an assignment. God has placed so much inside of us that once we tap into it, can be used to enhance our experience as Moms and beyond!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
When people say “our city,” I usually think of Baltimore City, even though I live in Baltimore County. What I appreciate most about this area is the sense of familiarity and connection. It’s where my family is, where my roots are, and where so much of my life has been shaped.

One thing I’ve grown especially grateful for is platforms like this magazine. Being featured has opened my eyes to opportunities and visibility I didn’t even realize existed, and I truly appreciate the time and care your team takes to highlight local stories, small businesses, and community leaders.

Baltimore County has felt very community-oriented to me, and as I’ve begun stepping out more in the last year, I’ve also noticed strong support for small businesses across the region as a whole. Exploring different parts of Maryland has helped me see the potential that exists when communities intentionally invest in one another.

If there’s a challenge, it’s learning how to navigate access and opportunity and understanding where resources are, how to connect, and how to step into spaces that may not always feel obvious. I’m still learning that, but I’m encouraged by the willingness I see to support growth and collaboration throughout the area.
